Make a Gift
Bone marrow and stem cell transplantation are extending survival and
improving quality of life for thousands of cancer patients around the
nation. As one of the nation’s leaders in this vitally important
medical discipline, Duke’s Adult Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplantation
Program is providing state-of-the-art care today that gives people with
cancer and other serious diseases new hope — and developing novel
therapeutic strategies that will make that care even better tomorrow.
Philanthropic support from both foundations and individuals —
in gifts both large and small — play an essential role in our
work.
What your support can do
- Biomedical research
Bone marrow and stem cell transplantation is a rapidly changing
field, one in which laboratory studies and clinical research
continually yield fresh insights that hold the promise of
improving every aspect of care. Yet innovative biomedical
research is expensive. Individual projects can cost upwards
of a million dollars, and the early, small-scale studies
that could yield exciting discoveries—as well as translational
research to turn them into promising new treatments—are
usually not funded by federal support. To nurture the groundbreaking
research that has already benefited so many people, and
offers the potential to benefit thousands more, philanthropic
support is essential.
- Patient support
Patients undergoing bone marrow or stem cell transplantation
require a broad array of services to help them cope with
the challenges of treatment. To meet those needs, we offer
empathetic counseling, expert assistance with lodging, family
logistics, and any other type of problem or concern, support
groups, and extensive patient and family education. Yet,
while essential, these services are not considered reimbursable
on any insurance form. Philanthropic gifts make it possible
for us to provide all the services that will help ensure
the best outcomes for patients undergoing transplantation.
